WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?
Our What We Believe statement contains the essential doctrines upon which Oxford Baptist stands and around which true unity is experienced.
THE BIBLE
We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God, and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life.
GOD THE SON - Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, true God and true man.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who by faith receive him as their personal Saviour are justified on the grounds of the shed blood of the Son of God and hereby become children of God and joint heirs with Christ.
We believe that the one who receives Jesus Christ as personal Saviour and Lord and gives evidence of a regenerate heart is eternally secure.
We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, and in his ascension into heaven and his presence for us as High Priest and Advocate.
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the absolute and essential deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, who convinces men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement. He regenerates, sanctifies, illuminates and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ. He bestows spiritual gifts upon believers, and empowers them for daily living.
SATAN
We believe Satan is a created spirit being, the originator of sin, who revolted against God and now works in opposition to the people and purposes of God.
PEOPLE
We believe that Adam and Eve were created in the image of God and that they sinned, thereby incurring not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God. Therefore all of Adam's race are born with a sinful depraved nature, and those who reach moral responsibility become sinners in thought, word and deed.
We believe in witnessing to the saving and keeping power of our Lord, in the power of the Spirit-filled life, by which we mean, not the teaching of eradication, but a life of yieldeness, in which the Spirit of God gives victory over operations of the flesh, which remain in every believe as long as they are in the body.
FUTURE
We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; in the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and in the judgment and conscious eternal punishment of the wicked
CHURCH
We believe that a New Testament church is a company of baptized believers sufficiently organized to carry on the work of the Lord at home and abroad.
We believe in the two ordinances as clearly taught in the New Testament, namely, baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper (Communion).
We believe in the preaching of the Gospel to every person and the edification of individual members of the body of Christ.
